The article compares the geographical dimensions areas in Shillong and Cherrapunjee. While one place is famous for natural beauty the other part has extreme unique features.

The North Eastern part of India is blessed with beautiful natural sites. Shillong and Cherrapunjee are situated in the extreme north east of India.

Shillong is called the Scotland of The East. The reason is that due to seasonal rain the mountains are lush green. So the clear sky and the green mountains create a heavenly atmosphere which is similar to Scotland in Europe.

Cherrapunjee on the other hand is the place which has very high rainfall. Very significantly there are geographical phenomenon which take place in Cherrapunjee which are unique. Either they happen due to the latitude and longitude of the place, or due to heavy rainfall.

For example there is a place in Cherrapunjee which has zero visibility level due to extreme fog and mist. This is something which never happen in Shillong.

There is major difference of Shillong with Cherrapunjee in the ecosystems. In Cherrapunjee there is a diverse ecosystem. In Mausmai falls, there are typical cave patterns created due to water falls in the form of hilly water falls. Typical types of carnivorous plants like Orchids and Pither plants are present there. Venus Fly Trap and Nepenthes Khaziana are only found in Cherrapunjee in India. They are not found in the other parts of the country.

There are other birds like parrots, pigeons, crickets having different colours which are very typical in Cherrapunjee. On the contrary Shillong is full of other natural beauties. There is man made Golf Course which is lush green. The British Government modernized it at the time when India was under Colonial rule.

There is a beautiful lake called Umium lake which is also called the Barapani lake. There are beautiful hills in the vicinity. The local people come to spend their evenings in either sides of the lake. There is a beautiful falls called Elephant Falls. But it does not have the diverse landforms as that of Cherrapunjee.

For travelers who love adventure, Cherrapunjee will attract them more than Shillong. The Mausmai Caves are created in such a manner that if one person starts from one end and gets out from the other the person has to pass through cold water and dark caves. It is a very adventurous exercise. The entire area is full of jostling of birds and different forms of insects. During British period the officers who used to get punishment postings they used to be transferred to Cherrapunjee.
