Attracted by the good reviews and promotional details found in the website of Acuaverde Resort Laiya, San Juan Batangas Philippines, we decided to spend an overnight stay here during the Holy Week. We paid USD563 or PHP23, 200 for 3 rooms that could accommodate 6 adults and 2 kids overnight inclusive of 3 buffet meals (dinner, breakfast and lunch).

As we arrived in the place, I was some sort of disappointed. The fallen leaves in the parking area are unsightly and to think that the parking area is the first place seen by the guests, I wonder why they don’t sweep this place as often as they should. Besides the parking area is not fully shaded to protect all the cars from the heat. Our car had to stay under the sun for hours until a guest vacated a shady parking place.
The theme of the place is native but even then, it looks just an ordinary rural ground. There are big tamarind trees around and some plants but not enough to give the place green and refreshing ambiance.
I was looking for more greenery around but truly lacking. The ground is not well-manicured. We had to walk in a sandy not well-manicured ground from the parking area to the reception area to confirm our arrival.
The reception area is a beautifully crafted native hut where guests could enjoy the welcome drink. But the Casa Verde rooms reserved for us though well-trimmed are too small for the price. The short but frequent power failures at midnight even disturbed our sleep. The Management should do something to keep the guests from this kind of disturbance otherwise I would think this is an strategy to minimize power consumption.
They served buffet meals to the guests but there is nothing really outstanding about the dishes. There are not much choices and the taste is quite bland. I had to just satisfy my stomach with the fruit salad because even the watermelon was not sweet. The breakfast buffet is great though because of the many choices. I enjoyed the pure hot chocolate along with pancakes, omelets, cereals, fried rice with complementing dishes and a lot more.
One thing good about the place is it is not noisy and overpopulated .They don’t tolerate disturbing activities inside so that every one can enjoy quiet vacation in this place. They also have facilities and tools for board and racquet games to give some guests some other means to enjoy their stay apart from swimming and water fun. Also they have very accommodating staff that in a way could appease whatever shortcomings they have.
This resort by the way has no pool so if you have kids who can’t brave the sea, they will not enjoy this place. The beachfront is not as texciting as that of La Luz Resort located in that same place but it is wider and the sand is white and tidy. Along the beachfront are cushioned cabanas perfect for relaxing in the early morning when the sun has not turned too hot. Also the beachfront is not as crowded as the other nearby resorts.
During the night the resort looks a lot better because of the beautiful lights around. I enjoyed the lights more than the food during our dinner which was served at the rooftop of the bar. However they did not keep all the beautiful lights on through the night so even if we wanted to stay out to enjoy the lightings around, we had to retreat to our bedrooms as the lights were turned off one by one.
